Yoga Retreat

Koh Samui, Thailand
25th March - 1st April 2023

_MG_8864.jpg

After hosting an unforgettable retreat in Bali this year, I was keen to plan the next one somwhere just as exotic, offering the opportunity for culture, adventure and a luxury escape. So I'm so bloody excited to share with you my next yoga retreat in Thailand, March 2023.

This retreat will offer time to relax and revive, unwind in a tranquil environment, make new friends, delve deeper into your practice and relish the senses; a time when nothing is expected of you and everything is possible.

When we break free from routine, we open up the door to discover freedom, independence, connection and transformation within ourselves. So have a read below and decide if now is the time to dedicate to putting yourself first and investing in your wellbeing.

Our Home

Our home for the week is located in the tropical paradise of Koh Samui, a peaceful Island in the south of Thailand, where you can experience unparalleled tranquillity. In one breath you can look out over the ocean and in the next you can gaze over majestic mountains.

Whilst there will be a schedule of yoga, outside of that you can use your free time in whatever way you please, relax on a white sandy beach and enjoy the breeze of the ocean or hang out on a sun lounger at one of the two swimming pools available.

Should you want a bit more activity, you’re welcome to go wild with full use of the facilities in the fitness centre, working up a sweat or pumping some iron.

If like me, you’d rather stick to pampering, you can indulge in a wide selection of treatments at the onsite spa including facials, body scrubs, body wraps, massages and more. The spa hosts both private air conditioned spa rooms as well as outdoor open-air massage salas’s and male and female herbal steam rooms and if you’re interested in taking your detoxing to the next level` there are also colema facilities (machine & self-administered) in dedicated rooms as well as facilities in all of the bathrooms.

The Food

You will be treated to a creative and beautifully prepared menu from the resorts’ award winning restaurant, featuring a wide array of inventive and colourful offerings, mainly consisting of vegetarian food but also with fish options for certain meals.

Expect a distinctive culinary experience that values both nutrition and taste in equal measure with healthy twists on Thai, Italian and Mexican classics. On top of that you can expect fresh juices, smoothies and raw versions of decadent desserts that are as mouth-watering as they are nourishing leaving you salivating long after your visit to tropical paradise is over.

The restaurant makes every effort to ensure that the majority of fruits and vegetables are organic, fresh and locally sourced from farms on the Samui island and all food is prepared without using any artificial additives, colourings, preservatives or flavourings.

The Yoga

There will be two daily yoga classes, (with the exception of the day off) the morning class will be a dynamic energising practice combining prānāyāma and āsana followed by a more soothing yin and meditation practice in the evenings. These classes will be held in our own private open-walled yoga śala where you’ll hear the natural soundtrack of tropical birds chirping, palm trees swaying and perhaps the sound of falling rain. Practicing so close to nature is a truly blissful way to reconnect to yourself and what’s around you.

Each day we will work with a different philosophical and physical focus, looking to explore the spectrum of what yoga has to offer. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions and explore different elements of the practice that you’re interested in.

Occasionally during our practice sessions there is also be guided journaling, which can be a great way of both inquiry and processing. Just like headstands, classes are not mandatory, you are welcome to opt out of anything you like in designing the most beneficial experience for yourself.

Activities

Thai Cooking Class

Thailand is famous for its fresh, natural, tastebud-tantalising cuisine. As someone who adores Thai food, I thought it would only be fitting to explore the country’s unique culinary culture. In my opinion, the best way to do so is not only by eating the food but also by taking a cooking class. In our group Thai cooking class, we’ll not only learn tips and tricks to boost food prep and cooking skills, but also enjoy your own delicious cooking as we prepare an appetizer, soup, main dish and dessert.

Excursion Day

On the day off, we will adventure out on a large boat for a full days excursion, exploring the Ang Thong National Marine Park. The trip will include snorkeling, kayaking, island exploring, a little bit of gentle (optional) hiking and lots of incredible views of the Gulf of Thailand. We'll also have breakfast and lunch whilst we're out before heading back to the resort for our evening meal.

Common Questions...

Do I need to have a certain amount of yoga experience?

No not at all. Yoga is for everyone and the way that I teach is all about the experience of yoga not about how much of a pretzel you can get into or if you know what ekapadakoundinyasana is.

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely! The great thing about a retreat is that you’re guaranteed to meet people, it’s the perfect balance of having time for yourself and getting to connect with likeminded people. There is one Arcadia Deluxe room available with twin beds if you want to share but are planning to come solo.

Is it just for women?

Not in the slightest. Whilst I regularly have more women on my retreats, they are open for all genders.
