About the event
Sun salutations, also known as Surya Namaskar are a traditional and foundational aspect of modern postural yoga and is a sequence of postures commonly seen towards the beginning of dynamic yoga classes.
Sun salutations are an aspect of the practice that is traditionally moved through with the flow of breath, commonly one breath per pose. Whilst this a wonderful way to build strength, flow and synchronisation between breath and body, it doesn’t create that much space to really look in depth at the flow and break down what is happening.
This workshop will look at the history, benefits (and shortcomings) of sun salutations and then spend time breaking down each pose in the sequence, looking at the fundamentals, alignment and technique for greater clarity and understanding. We’ll also look at various modifications of the sequence as well as modifications for the individual postures so you can find what works best for your body.
Once there is greater awareness and understanding of what the body is doing, it can allow practitioners to shift the focus more to the internal aspects of practice and therefore move closer towards a true state of yoga.
All levels of experience are welcome.
