Sammy Rainbow Furnival
15th - 21st October 2023
How do you fancy escaping to Spain with me in October for sun, yoga, new friends and delicious food?
Our location for this wellness adventure is the stunning Santillian, a private hillside yoga and wellness centre with outstanding sea views on the Costa del Sol, just 30 minutes east of Malaga. It is literally one of the most beautiful European retreat centres I've ever laid my eyes on.
You’ll be treated to beautiful accommodation and nourished with fine Mediterranean food. Alongside daily yoga classes and workshops to help deepen your practice, there will also be opportunities for treatments, excursions and activities.
The retreat begins on Sunday evening as we come together for an opening ceremony and yoga practice before indulging in a welcome dinner.
Each day from then, for the early risers there will be an optional light breakfast of fresh fruit, tea and healthy snacks followed by an optional 30-minute pranayama and meditation practice at 7.45am.
We'll then all come together at 8.30am for invigorating 90-minute energising asana practice.
After practice, you'll be treated to a leisurely mouth-watering buffet brunch.
The rest of the afternoon will be yours to enjoy, relaxing around the swimming pool, going on walks in the countryside, taking a trip to the beach or treating yourself to one of the many treatments on offer.
We’ll then meet again in the late afternoon at 5.30pm for a relaxing 90-minute Yin and mindfulness practice.
This will be followed by a delicious evening meal.
There will also be optional in-studio movie night on one of the evenings. (Let's hope you like my taste in films...)
Set in a secluded part of the Spanish countryside at the top of its own private valley looking to the sea, Santillán is a peaceful oasis to immerse yourself in the sweet sounds of nature and the beauty of Southern Spain. Santillán was actually listed in The Times newspaper as one of the 20 Top Yoga Retreats in the World, not to mention it was visited by the Dalai Lama himself on a monastic passage through Spain, so, you know it's got to be good.
For relaxation time, the extensive gardens and salt-water pool area offer multiple spaces to relax and enjoy a nap, soak up the nature and the sun, hang out with new friends or take some time on your own with a good book. In the evening it's the perfect location for star-gazing due to the reduced light in the countryside.
Each of the rooms are individually styled, paying special attention to colour, harmony and balance with the environment. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with a bath tub and shower, magnifying mirror, hair dryer, welcome products, air-conditioning, heating, work desk and a balcony or patio with sea or garden/mountain views.
Andalucía is the warmest region of Spain, and the local area boasts the highest level of warm sunlight hours in all of Europe. So, you can get your fix of sunshine and warmth when the standard October temperatures elsewhere often drop.
You will be treated to a week of the most delicious Mediterranean meals. The chefs enjoy sharing their popular Spanish-influenced healthy cuisine. based on organic produce grown under the Spanish sun from Santillians gardens and local farmers along with fresh delights from the chicken coop, fruit trees and herb garden.
Each day you’ll receive an early serving of tea and fruit, followed by a buffet style brunch and wholesome dinner. Food will be largely vegatarian with a few offerings of seafood, mainly just so we can have a mouth-watering traditional paella. Outside of food times, you will have full access to still water, caffeinated and non-caffeinated coffee and teas. There are also soft drinks, beer and wine available at the Honesty Bar.
And to make things even better, all food waste is processed in the on-site wormery, providing natural fertilizer for the gardens. Lower food miles, organic produce and minimal waste help to keep Santillians carbon footprint and waste low.
There will be two daily yoga classes as well as an optional Pranayama and meditation practice in the mornings. The morning practice will be a dynamic and energising vinyasa practice followed by a soothing yin a mindfulness practice in the evenings, which will also include journaling, visualisation activities and group discussions.
Each day we will work with a different philosophical theme, in both the morning and evening practice, so you can really immerse yourself into the focus for the day. Just like headstands, showing up for the classes is not mandatory, it is your retreat so you are free to do with it whatever you choose.
If practicing with me for 7 days wasn't already exciting enough, our sessions will take place in a combination of three utterly stunning yoga spaces.
The largest of the studios is a spacious state-of- the-art yoga sala with beautiful sea views and huge south-facing windows, allowing you to practice yoga while enjoying sunsets, sea views, and appreciating the natural beauty of Santillan’s valley location. It has thermally insulated wooden floor, quadraphonic sound and all the essential yoga props of the highest available quality, resulting in the ultimate studio experience.
The second studio is a large traditional Andalucian salón, looking out into the shaded pine garden and on to the sea, the studio is a peaceful haven to drop deep into your practice. This studio also has a pull-down screen which will enable us to enjoy a fun evening movie night.
There is also a beautiful outdoor Garden Sala that has 360-degree views all around to gardens, the valley and hills and on to the sea so you can practice whilst enjoying the light morning breeze.
Common questions answered...
Do I need to have a certain amount of yoga experience?
No not at all. Yoga is for everyone and the way that I teach is all about the experience of yoga not about how much of a pretzel you can get into or if you know what ekapadakoundinyasana is.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely! The great thing about a retreat is that you’re guaranteed to meet people, it’s the perfect balance of having time for yourself and getting to connect with likeminded people.
Is it just for women?
Not in the slightest. Whilst I regularly have more women on my retreats, these retreats are open for everyone.
If you have any other questions, queries, concerns or simply want to discuss anything that’s involved send me a message and I’d be more than happy to chat!

‘I started doing yoga as a teenager in the 1970s and have practised yoga on and off since that age. I cannot count the number of different yoga teachers I have met. I can say with certainty that Sammy Furnival is the most outstanding, the most patient, the most humorous and the most inspiring teacher. I have just been on a weekend yoga retreat with Sammy and it has done me more good than two weeks on the beach' Sasha, UK retreat, 2023
