About the event
Description:
To live in fulfilment, we need to find ways to face and embrace inevitable obstacles that come up in life. How to navigate and move through these challenges will be the focus of this half day retreat, where we will delve deeper into some of the transformational aspects of yoga. You will be empowered with jnana (knowledge) as well as different practices, tools and techniques that you can call upon for support when faced with the uneasiness that arises from difficult situations and the undeniable challenges of being a human being in this world.
Schedule
In the first half of our mini retreat, Sammy will guide you through a grounding and balancing asana practice, that will move the body, releasing tension and establishing a practice of focusing of the mind. This will then be complemented by a Yoga Philosophy discussion with Sandhiya to enhance your understanding of yogic concepts which, once expanded, provides different perspectives and approaches to manage the unwanted obstacles. This will also shine the light of awareness on our shared experiences, being reassured that we are more similar than different in what we encounter in life.
We will then have a break with time to reflect, gather, connect and enjoy some delicious tea and treats.
In the second half, Sandhiya will share Sanskrit Mantras that are known to invoke energies that Clear your Path and Remove Obstacles. You will first learn about the background, context and presiding energy of the mantras through ancient storytelling and symbolism, before moving onto pronunciation - so no need to be concerned if Sanskrit is new to you. We will then practice mantra recitation as a group ensuring you are prepared to continue in your own time at home. Sammy will then close our day together, with a pranayama session, essentially breathwork intended to support the movement of energy through our various bodies and systems. We’ll look specifically at practices that help you to down regulate your nervous system that can be used as tools in times of distress as well as everyday practices.
